๐Ÿ”— The 2025 Merger โ€” How UPGB Was Formed

"One State, One RRB"

Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank came into existence on 1 May 2025 when the Government of India amalgamated the state's three remaining Regional Rural Banks โ€” Aryavart Bank, Baroda UP Bank, and Prathama UP Gramin Bank โ€” into a single entity, under the central government's "One State, One RRB" consolidation policy. Although the legal entity itself is under 18 months old, its constituent banks trace back decades, several through earlier rounds of RRB mergers of their own.

This was itself the culmination of a longer consolidation drive: UP had 7 separate RRBs as recently as 2012, progressively merged down to 3 by 2020, and now to just 1 (UPGB) in 2025 โ€” all sponsored jointly going forward by Bank of Baroda under the unified structure.

Why "Chairman" and Not "MD & CEO"?

Like all Regional Rural Banks, UPGB's top executive holds the title Chairman rather than "MD & CEO". This is a structural feature of the RRB model under the RRB Act, 1976: the Chairman is typically a senior officer deputed from the sponsor bank (here, Bank of Baroda) to run the RRB, rather than being appointed by a separate board process as at commercial banks. (This is a different reason from why SBI also uses "Chairman" โ€” SBI's title comes from the special SBI Act, 1955, not from sponsor-bank deputation.)

UPGB's website (upgb.bank.in) is still being updated post-merger โ€” some contact numbers and portal pages carry over from the constituent banks (notably Baroda UP Bank) and its Branch/BC Locator tool has been intermittently unavailable. If a link below doesn't resolve, use the RBI Bank Branch/IFSC Master as a reliable fallback for locating a specific branch and confirming its IFSC code.

๐Ÿ’ผ Products & Services

Focus: Agriculture, Rural & Semi-Urban Lending

As a Regional Rural Bank, UPGB's core mandate under the RRB Act is priority-sector lending to farmers, rural artisans and small borrowers โ€” not the urban retail/corporate banking that dominates commercial bank balance sheets. Crop loans, Kisan Credit Card and group-lending products are its bread and butter.

๐ŸŒพ Agri & Priority Sector Loans

  • Crop Loans / Kisan Credit Card (KCC) โ€” incl. digital eKCC
  • Self-Help Group (SHG) & Joint Liability Group (JLG) loans
  • Rural & Agri Housing Loans (from ~7.20% p.a.)
  • Farm mechanisation & allied-activity loans (dairy, fishery, etc.)
  • Government-linked schemes for small & marginal farmers

๐Ÿฆ Deposits

  • Savings Bank Account
  • Current Account
  • Fixed / Term Deposit
  • Recurring Deposit

๐Ÿ’ฐ Retail & MSME Loans

  • Car / Vehicle Loan (from ~7.90% p.a.)
  • Education Loan (from ~10.50% p.a.)

UPGB publishes a single rate table regardless of deposit slab for most tenures; a 0.50% senior-citizen add-on applies on deposits below โ‚น100 lakh.

๐Ÿ“Š Financial Disclosures

Regional Rural Banks are not listed on any stock exchange and do not publish SEBI-style quarterly investor disclosures the way SBI or other listed banks do. UPGB is additionally a very newly formed legal entity (1 May 2025), so a multi-year, entity-level financial table comparable to a listed bank's does not yet exist โ€” its first full-year standalone results (FY 2025-26) would only be expected after the financial year closes and gets audited. Historical financials of the three pre-merger constituent banks are not directly additive to a single "UPGB" track record.

What data is genuinely available

  • Scale indicators (verifiable): ~4,330 branches across all 75 UP districts; ~19,600+ employees โ€” disclosed at/around the time of merger.
  • NABARD's annual "Statistical Statements Relating to Regional Rural Banks in India" report publishes RRB-wise aggregate deposits, advances, and profitability data nationally โ€” the most authoritative independent source for RRB financials, typically released with a lag of several months after each financial year.
  • Bank of Baroda's Annual Report (as sponsor bank) periodically references its sponsored RRB's performance in its rural/priority-sector disclosures, though not as a full standalone P&L.
  • UPGB's own website does not currently carry a dedicated "Financial Results" or "Annual Report" section with downloadable statements.
We are deliberately not publishing an invented multi-year profit/deposits/NPA table for UPGB, because no reliable, entity-level figures for the merged bank were available in the sources reviewed as of this writing. For genuine figures, check NABARD's annual RRB statistical statements, Bank of Baroda's Annual Report / investor disclosures, and UPGB's own official website once published.
