Banks / Karnataka Grameena Bank
Karnataka Grameena Bank was formed on 1 May 2025 by the amalgamation of two pre-existing Regional Rural Banks under the Government of India's "One State, One RRB" consolidation reform (Gazette Notification No. 1604, dated 7 April 2025):
This is a genuine multi-entity consolidation โ not a simple rename โ mirroring how several other states' RRBs (e.g. Uttar Pradesh's three RRBs merging into one) were unified in the same 2025 reform round. Both predecessor banks were sponsored by Canara Bank, which continues as sponsor of the merged entity.
Chairman, Karnataka Grameena Bank โ appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the merged entity from its formation on 1 May 2025. He previously served as Chairman of Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank, one of the two predecessor banks, and continued into the unified institution. (Directory seed data โ please verify current tenure/incumbency on the bank's official "Executives" page before relying on it.)
Regional Rural Banks are governed by the Regional Rural Banks Act, 1976, under which the top executive holds the title Chairman (not "MD & CEO" as at most commercial banks). Unlike SBI โ where "Chairman" reflects the bank's own SBI Act, 1955 โ an RRB's Chairman is typically a senior officer deputed from the sponsor bank (here, Canara Bank) to head the RRB, usually for a fixed tenure, with the sponsor bank also nominating other key management staff.

As a Regional Rural Bank, KGB's lending book is weighted heavily toward priority-sector, agricultural and rural/semi-urban credit rather than urban retail or corporate banking.
General Public domestic term deposit rates below are fetched live from KGB's official rates page where possible. If the live fetch is unavailable, the last published rates are shown instead. Senior citizens typically earn ~0.50% additional across most tenures โ check the official page for exact senior-citizen and NRO rates.
Karnataka Grameena Bank is not a stock-listed entity โ as an RRB it does not file quarterly results with SEBI/stock exchanges the way listed commercial banks do. It only came into existence on 1 May 2025, so no multi-year standalone P&L/NPA track record exists yet for the merged entity itself. The figures below are what has been disclosed publicly at/around formation and in early sector reporting; for authoritative, current figures see the bank's own Annual Report and Performance Highlights pages, and NABARD's annual "Statistical Statements Relating to RRBs".
