๐Ÿ“Œ Major 2026 development: retail & wealth business sale to Kotak Mahindra Bank

On 30 June 2026, Deutsche Bank signed a definitive agreement for Kotak Mahindra Bank to acquire its India retail banking, affluent private banking and wealth management business โ€” the bank's only retail franchise outside Europe, comprising all 17 branches, roughly โ‚น29,000 Cr in loans, โ‚น16,000 Cr in deposits and โ‚น10,500 Cr of assets under management, serving about 150,000 customers via ~1,000 employees. The deal, valued at around โ‚น281.7 Cr (~US$30 million), is expected to close by September 2027 subject to regulatory approvals. The move is part of Deutsche Bank's "Global Hausbank" strategy to prioritise capital-efficient, higher-return businesses; once complete, Deutsche Bank's India presence will be almost entirely corporate, institutional, treasury and custody banking, plus its Global Capability Centres. Until closing, existing retail/wealth customers continue to be serviced by Deutsche Bank as usual.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Leadership โ€” CEO, India

Current

Kaushik Shaparia

CEO, India and Emerging Asia, Deutsche Bank โ€” in office since May 2019, succeeding Ravneet Gill. Previously Asia-Pacific Head of Corporate Banking Coverage within Institutional & Treasury Coverage and Global Head of Subsidiary Coverage; has spent most of his career at Deutsche Bank across trade finance, cash management and corporate banking. Has overseen the bank's continued pivot toward corporate & institutional banking in India, including the June 2026 agreement to sell the retail, private banking and wealth management business to Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Note on structure

Deutsche Bank's India operations are run as branches of Deutsche Bank AG, incorporated in Germany โ€” not as a separately incorporated Indian banking subsidiary. As a result, the top executive holds the title CEO, India (styled "CEO, India and Emerging Asia" to reflect a broader regional remit) rather than "MD & CEO" or "Chairman," and the bank's India financial statements are filed as "Deutsche Bank AG โ€” India Branches."

๐Ÿ’ผ Products & Services

Deutsche Bank India is primarily a corporate, institutional and wholesale bank โ€” trade finance, treasury, custody and cash management are its core strengths, not mass-market retail. Its limited retail & wealth footprint (17 branches) is itself being sold to Kotak Mahindra Bank (expected to close by September 2027); the products below are grouped to reflect that reality honestly rather than presenting Deutsche Bank as a full-service retail bank.

Deutsche Bank's India operations are not a separately listed entity โ€” they file audited annual financial statements as "Deutsche Bank AG โ€” India Branches" and do not publish quarterly, investor-style results the way listed Indian banks do. PAT/PBT figures for FY2023-24 and FY2022-23 above are compiled from financial-press coverage of the Bank's audited annual results (marked ~ as approximate) since the source PDFs could not be reliably parsed for this page; audited FY2024-25 results are published but exact figures could not be confidently extracted either. Given the June 2026 agreement to sell the retail, private banking & wealth management business to Kotak Mahindra Bank, future India-branch financial statements are expected to reflect an increasingly corporate/institutional-only franchise. Always verify exact figures directly from Deutsche Bank India's own official Financial Results page (FY2024-25 report, FY2023-24 report) or its Pillar 3 disclosures before making financial decisions.
