๐Ÿ‘ฅ Leadership โ€” MD & CEO

Current

Anubrata Biswas

MD & CEO, Airtel Payments Bank โ€” in office since May 2018. Brings over two decades of experience across banking, financial services and telecom. Under his leadership the bank has scaled to become one of India's largest payments banks by customer and transacting-user base.

Board Chair vs. MD & CEO

As with most companies, day-to-day operations sit with the MD & CEO, while a non-executive Chairperson heads the Board. Airtel Payments Bank's Board is undergoing a Chairperson transition in 2026 (see table below) โ€” this does not change the MD & CEO position.

Key Leadership Positions

Sunil Bharti Mittal (founder-Chairman of Bharti Airtel) is stepping down as Airtel Payments Bank's non-executive Chairman effective 30 September 2026, with Shabnam Sinha set to succeed him from 1 October 2026. This is a board/governance change, separate from the MD & CEO role held by Anubrata Biswas.

Airtel Payments Bank operates via a network of "banking points" (neighbourhood Airtel retail stores and partner outlets) rather than a dense conventional branch network, so a standard branch locator does not apply in the usual sense. Cash deposit/withdrawal, account opening and agent-assisted service are available at these banking points; use the official website's store/outlet locator to find the nearest one.

๐Ÿ’ผ Products & Services

โš ๏ธ Important โ€” Payments Banks Cannot Lend

Under its RBI Payments Bank licence (2014 Payments Bank Guidelines), Airtel Payments Bank is legally prohibited from issuing loans, credit cards, or any other credit/lending product of its own โ€” it cannot function as an NBFC. Any loan, credit line or credit card marketed under the Airtel brand is issued by a separate, independently licensed lending partner, not by Airtel Payments Bank itself. The bank's own activities are limited to deposits (subject to the RBI balance cap), payments/remittances, and distribution of third-party insurance and investment products as a corporate agent.

๐Ÿฆ Deposits & Accounts

  • Savings Bank Account (zero-balance, digitally opened via video KYC)
  • Current Account (for merchants, kirana stores & small businesses)
  • Family/relationship-linked savings accounts
  • FASTag-linked prepaid account (NETC)
  • Subject to RBI's per-customer deposit cap (see RBI Info below)

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Insurance & Investments (distributed, not underwritten)

  • Life & health insurance โ€” distributed via partner insurers as a corporate agent
  • General/accident insurance add-ons
  • Gold & other investment products offered through tie-ups
  • Airtel Payments Bank does not itself underwrite insurance or manage mutual funds โ€” it only distributes third-party products

โž• Other Services

  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) receipt for eligible government schemes
  • Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) biller network
